Ruptly youtube.com/watch?v=_D__QGrWVxg The US-backed SDF attacked the last stronghold of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) near Baghouz in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, Sunday. The US-backed SDF had asked the IS members in the area to surrender until 17:00 (GMT 15:00) on March 10. As the deadline passed, coalition airstrikes and the SDF heavy weaponries were launched at around 18:00 (GMT16:00). Footage shows fire balls landing in the area and smoke rising.
SDF spokesperson Mustafa Bali tweeted on Sunday that its forces were engaged in "direct violent clashes" and that coalition planes were targeting weapons depots. According to SDF, the operation against the last IS stronghold started on March 1, after nearly 15,000 IS members surrendered with their families. It was then paused on March 4, as more wanted to surrender. It is estimated that up to 10,000 IS members and families have surrendered between March 4 and 10, as SDF reports.

Ruptly youtube.com/watch?v=uOMRYLwpcRY Iranian President Hassan Rouhani boarded a plane in Tehran bound for Baghdad on Monday, as he began a three-day official trip to neighbouring Iraq aimed at boosting ties between the countries. Calling the bond between Iraq and Iran "a special relationship," Rouhani explained the aim of the trip was to expand the bilateral relationship and boost economic ties amid US sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
"Today, our economic relationship is approximately twelve billion dollars a year and we can increase these relationships easily to twenty billion dollars in future years. Iraq can fulfill many of its needs from Iran and Iran can fulfill its needs from Iraq," he said. He also said the relationship could not be compared to that of the US, calling it "the pariah in the region" that is "looking for Iranophobia."

Ruptly youtube.com/watch?v=S660VMtsGlY Hundreds of people visited Slobodan Milosevic’s grave in Pozarevac, on Monday, to honour the deceased president of the Former Republic of Yugoslavia’s on the 13th anniversary of his death. Among the attendees was Serbia’s former Prime Minister and former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Yugoslavia, Nikola Sainovic. "We came here to pay respect to the great statesman who led this country during a very difficult time. His struggle to defend Serbian people's rights will always remain in history," said Nikola Sainovic.
Slobodan Milosevic died of a heart attack in 2006, in his cell while in the custody of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and as a defendant in a war crimes trial. Authorities in Belgrade at the time of his death did not permit a state funeral to take place, so he was buried in the back garden of his widow's family home in Pozarevac.

Ruptly youtube.com/watch?v=AVMvmaHR6-o National Assembly leader and self-declared interim President of Venezuela Juan Guaido asked for a 'state of alarm' to be called while speaking in Caracas on Monday. The move aims to request international aid amid a massive power outage. "When we see patients with their nutrition severed, dying in their mothers' arms. When we cannot buy food, not only because of the money but because everything is collapsing or closing down. That is why I perfectly understand the desperation of all gathered here today," he said. Guaido implored the Assembly to approve his 'state of national alarm, of emergency, of tragedy, of catastrophe.'
He went on to call on 'every Venezuelan' to protest on the streets at 3pm (18:00 GMT) on Tuesday 'to express absolute rejection and as part of the conquest to get our rights back." "We have a few days now to call the entire country to Caracas to demand our rights," he said. The power outage has paralysed much of the country and put hospital patients in need of care at risk since it began on Thursday, March 7. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has meanwhile blamed the outage on a cyberattack at the Guri hydroelectric complex, the source of 80 percent of the country's power.

Ruptly youtube.com/watch?v=67D5rM1cZsw US Senator Lindsey Graham vowed to push for the US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, as he toured the Golan Heights alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman on Monday. Graham said, "I will go back to the United States Senate. Working with Senator Cruz, I will start an effort to recognise the Golan as part of the State of Israel now and forever." He went on to say that withdrawing from the territory would be "a strategic nightmare" for Israel.
In turn, Netanyahu thanked Graham for his "unbelievable support," calling him and Friedman "two of the greatest friends of Israel." He then stressed that the Golan Heights "must stay part of Israel forever," adding that "it's very important that the international community recognise this fact and accept it, and most especially our great friend, the United States of America."
