Capitalism only sees value in a good/services economic utility - a blatant disregard for the intrinsic cultural value that an item has, its embedded traditions and worth that it has for society as a whole. The problem with free-market fundamentalism is that it focuses on the desires of individuals, whilst the preservation of traditions concerns the interests of the dead and the unborn. Because democracies socialise individuals to be present-oriented (a high time preference) they are mostly apathetic to the concept of tradition, instead clinging on to the all too familiar sensation of hedonism, degeneracy, and rampant atomisation..
