This is why automation and efficiency will always just result in job loss instead of lower working hours, under the system of wage labor you will never see reduction in working hours, only loss in job, because worker compensation is not tied to what they actually produce, the labor is just bought as another resource.

You didn't answer a thing. If a job is automated then it is automated. So as best I can tell is that you're saying everyone who isn't a burger flipper should have their livelihoods reduced to make way for people who can't perform the same function.
A total labor requirement is not an indescribable factor but a series of requirements that each have their own subset of requirements. Farming and waiting tables are not the same function for example.
You can't equally distribute the labor without consequence. That consequence would be low or no output in areas that require training and skill.

Its hard to imagine any entire sector getting fully automated instantly. It is possible i suppose but in the end it doesn't matter, you can still just do the best you can do at balancing out labor needs, the point is no matter how things were it would be better than it currently is because everyone would already be working fewer hours.

Ok lets use your candy maker notion. Mass produced candy is already largely automated. You of course have your mixers and kitchen staff on the kitchen end. Then you have your line attendants and machine operators on the production end. If line attendants positions are automated then those positions don't require a person. So you'd suggest that the attendant should be trained to partially displace the operator. Or should they displace the schmuck flushing lines? Or should they be displacing the guys mixing the candy?
Everyone works less and thus gets less while simultaneously putting someone who wasn't skilled enough in the first place to rise above being a line attendant into a position that can decrease quality and or quantity of the production line. All of a sudden mixing errors go up, shipments get held and profits go down.
Your solution is to kill the company which is privately owned mind you.
