Jon Stewart always sucked with political humor, despite the fact that he helped convince everyone he's the master of it. I do remember being like 10, trying to watch his show, and pretending to be a swarmy intelligent gentlemen, but nah. Reality always wins out, and a few moments later I once again found myself unable to pretend most everything he was saying wasn't bullshit.

I always preferred the Colbert Report though, because Colbert was actually funny, not just reciting news headlines with a wacky face, and he didn't pretend to be a smart serious journalist.

Times have changed; Stephen is no longer funny and unpretentious, and Jon Stewart has become a liberal deity. You can still see the influence he had on center left Gen X and early millennial progressives. For a lot of these people it is still 2006 and they still think you can remove a president from office through a powerful concoction of smugness and Emmys and selectively edited news clips. They will always think the Republican party means Donald Rumsfeld's pressers, when in fact the neocons are jumping ship and making their way into their own party (which apparently has total full spectrum media and political dominance, even despite conservative control of the executive, senate, and judiciary).

But still, without a functional Daily Show to make good points and remind its viewers that they're smart and the true underdogs, the liberals have lost a lot in the culture war. There are now twenty Daily Shows repeating the same thing over and over into the Reddit void. Whatever excitement and edgeness the Daily Show once had, it has long since been dispersed so as to better service the corporate mass product that is "satirical news," sold directly to wine aunts and 110 IQs. It used to be a show for college students and burnouts, it is now earnestly watched by DMV creeps, the donor class, and policymakers who used to watch it while trading bong hits in their early 20s.
