Junko Furuta was a Japanese high-school student who was abducted, tortured, raped, and murdered in the late 1980s. The murder was mainly perpetrated by four teenage boys, Hiroshi Miyano, Jō Ogura, Shinji Minato, and Yasushi Watanabe.
Approximately 100 people knew about Junko Furuta's captivity, but either did nothing about it or themselves participated in the torture and murder. Most of the participants were friends of the teenage boys, who were low-ranking members of the Yakuza.

The case in itself was sickening to the bone. The more you read into it the more fucked up it becomes. Most famous American murderers killed their victims in a matter of days at most. Several of the jury present during the trial allegedly fainted, the victims mother had a nervous breakdown when the details of her ordeal were revealed. The way it was dealt with was simply the cherry on top. The perpetrators got away with light sentences, instead of being shot in the neck and discarded like the rabid animals they were. The death penalty is a necessity to some degree, because there are just deeds so animalistic that the perpetrators should lose their right to be considered a human being worthy of existence.
