That is not how things work There is a budget for making the movie, and then there is the marketing budget and finally there is a cut that studios get while the rest goes to the cinemas(65% in the US, and 25% in china, with all other countries somewhere between those two) If the budget + marketing cost a total of 750 mill then the break even point would be around 1.15 billion, which is unheard of and not the case. If the budget was 150 million then marketing would be another 50-100 mill making the break even point 384(Which was the break even point for Alita roughly). However Marketing for CM has been way more intense than Alita was so they probably spent 150 on marketing alone + maybe around 250 to make the movie giving a break even point in the 600-750 million for the break even point when accounted for China's 25/%
The movie was fucking terrible and anyone should be able to see that. It's only so popular because it's in the lead up to Endgame, and part of a 20+ movie series that has previously been incredibly successful. The post-credits scene was the only thing 90% of people paid for. That's it. It was always going to be a success.
