Canada has a shit ton of :Oil Sands", but again those take a TON of extra processing/resources to be efficiently refined. Emissions from the development of the tar sands create 2-4 times more greenhouse gases than conventional oil. "Tailings" are the toxic sludge created by the process of mining tar sands. The tailings are kept in large “lakes” created to store the waste indefinitely. Mining operations in the tars sands are licensed to use 652 million cubic meters of water each year. This is about 7 times as much as the annual water needs of the Edmonton area. Almost none of that water is returned. This is just a bit of why the oil extracted from oil sands commands a much lower price on the commodities market than the standard setters of Brent Crude and West Texas Intermediate Crude (WTI). It's been a while since I researched oil refining in North/South America so things may have change somewhat by now.

It was Venezualans redistributing resources according to their needs, which is not only understandable, but also entirely moral.

Personally, I salute the Venezualans in taking the initiative. I myself have spent many years living under an oppressive capitalist regime that doesn't acknowledge my equal ownership in Venezuala, nor does it recognise my inalienable right to use Venezuala's resources according to my personal needs. But they are absolutely correct - those resources as as much mine as anybody's. A lack of the rule of law is the reason Venezuela is failing. The Chavez regime started communist guerilla organizations in the various neighborhoods of the country so that on a local level just saying something "disloyal" could get you jumped by commie antifa types.... then Chavez gave those groups guns. They're called "collectives".

Then the Venezuelan FBI is more like the Gestapo. They arrest people without charges and hold them indefinitely. Then they go to the families of the people they arrest and tell them to pay up or something even worse will happen to their loved one. They ignore the courts when convenient and only answer to the political insiders.

Thirdly Chavez started programs where the government steals businesses and enacts price controls which garauntee lack of availability of basic goods. The whole thing is a mess and has very little to do with American meddling.

Colombia, the state that has been most supportive of the US, has been pretty much fine once the cartels there were rooted out, as much as a Latin American country CAN be fine, at least. People would just say they're the beneficiaries of imperialist collaboration or whatever, typical indio mindset.
