It's not an autopilot, it's a safety feature.

In 2009, an Air France pilot crashed an airplane because he had no visibility and had no idea what he was doing. So now airplanes all have this system where the computer fully takes control in case the pilot fucks up because they don't trust pilots anymore.

The MCAS system was designed to pitch the nose down when needed to prevent a stall. It functions all the time, even with autopilot off. One of the main reasons they made it was because the center of gravity shifted with the new engines and could throw off pilots. It is also there to prevent fuckups when pilots are disoriented or cant see because of weather. However, the sensors screw up and keep pushing the plane down. It is supposed to be easy to override by manually adjusting the trim wheel, but panicked pilots didnt know. If it malfunctions at low altitude, they would still be fucked either way.

The only thing he gets wrong is that white pilot somehow realize the issue and avoid the crash. The fact is, it depends on how high you are when you encounter the issue. If you just took off, and still flying low, by the time you turn off the autopilot, you're already dead. Also, boeing didn't document nor train any pilots on how to use the anti-stall system. The first time they put the thing in their flight manual was after the lion crash, and they still haven't updated their training specs after the crash, which meant a lot of pilots still didn't know how to work the whole thing out.

The fact is, if it was just muh niggers, the whole world wouldn't have grounded the planes.

Probably. After the lion air crash there were memos sent to all the max pilots to be aware of this. I can understand how it happened with lion air... boeing didnt even tell anyone the system existed at first. The pilots had no idea what was going on, and probably just used the yoke in panic with no other knowledge of what was going on. But with the Ethiopian, I thought they would have known.
