not at all, actually. a lot of people did flee once the shooting started because it was a wide open space - but most people had the instinct to lie down on the ground and hope for the best.

not a great strategy but people haven't really evolved to deal with these mass-shooting type situations. if you're being attacked by a lion, maybe playing dead is a good strategy and the person running away is at most risk.
