Being a lesbian doesn’t mean you have to involve yourself with the community. I’m a bi female and I find them all toxic too so I don’t really engage with them. But there’s heaps of others out there who feel the same, so it’s not impossible to find a partner with the same view. It's possible to be literally anything. Sexuality is a primal urge, not a selection from a drop-down menu.
You're worrying way too much about the technicalities. Focus more on the practicality of it. Have the courage to go out there are meet the people in whom you're interested. Be good enough to yourself that you cut the haters among them loose without a second thought. No one with any decency is going to hold you to account over the wording of a self-applied label.

I was, and I mean in the sense that supporting bisexual women in more exclusively pursuing other women leaves one fewer opportunity for guys. For the other girl I mentioned I'm quite happy but all things being equal I'd have preferred enjoying her myself.

I am a lesbian, with only a very slight interest in guys, but I don't mingle with other lesbians at all, other than my wife, who also doesn't do that.
We just keep it to ourselves for the most part. Yeah, we are married, but that doesn't mean we broadcast it to everybody. You don't need to visit special sites and engage in lesbian community stuff, if you don't want to. My closest friends know about it (small group of 4 guys), and that's it.
