The problem is most people do not understand, respect, or care about the scientific method. They only care about capital-S "SCIENCE!" because to them it's an in-group badge of honor. "My group has Science on its side therefore I'm always right because Science is never wrong, even though I don't understand what science says about nearly anything". The further leads to the corruption of the sciences as people allow their biases to influence their interpretation of data and ultimately push social agendas through the scientific process as a means to make their beliefs into undisputed law.

The process of science - the scientific method - has a very specific definition and meaning. And it is not "largely faith based." That's what we're discussing.

It's pretty hard to maintain any belief in a traditional God if you're minimally initiated in the sciences and humanities. The biblical God adressed the problems of the unknown of 4~2 thousands years ago, the creation of the world, the soul, etc. The reason you don't see fundamentalist christian scientists anymore (like in the Middle Ages) is because the scientific method has established decent answers to many of those unknowns that fly in the face of the Bible. Furthermore, science is currently occupied in investigating unknowns that couldn't have possibly been envisioned 4~2 thousand years ago, like quantum physics. When it comes to physical reality, the Bible is simply wrong and useless. You could still, however, use traditional texts (not just one), seen as invaluable collections of social human knowledge distilled through millenia, to try to unveil deeper truths about the nature of human perceived reality and God. You would also, obviously, rely on science here, most importantly Psychology and Sociology (in the few scientifically sound studies at least). In that sense, you could find a belief in God along the way, but completely removed from fundamentalist tradition.
