One small aspect is the US has come to gradually realize that globalism was never an absolute necessity for it, and without a foe strong enough to threaten it (like the USSR) a more flexible, transactional model of global affairs will come to the fore.

Without a stabilizing hand, many systems designed to operate under the globalist model quickly begin to become discordant. This is just one element of many though.
