I think that China would never be able to invade the US. It's on a different continent, and the chinks would never get near.
But the US wouldn't be able to win a conventional war inside China either because of how massive the country is.

China lacks the logistical capability to field expeditionary forces in anything that could be mistaken for meaningful numbers, and the majority of their forces are dedicated to internal security missions. Most of their tanks, artillery, and planes are way outdated. It’s like when people say “russia has 20’000 tanks” but fail to mention less than a thousand of them are modern.
The US military, alternatively, is built from the ground up to eliminate conventional forces abroad and only fields modern tanks and aircraft.

Even if the US managed to wipe out China's navy, which admittingly enough the Chinese navy is pathetic compared to China's status in the world, the US would lose a significant amount of ships in its fleet. And if the US manages to land troops in China they would be met with heavy forces, enough to destroy all invasion attempts. The US can only land troops on the eastern part of China, which is where most cities and soldiers are stationed at, this gives China an excellent advantage at defending against the US. The losses to invade China would just be too high for the US to accept, not to mention it will most likely fail.

For example, it would not be possible to achieve victory for the United States if we had to occupy your country (unless we used nukes to break your national will to resist... that's very unlikely).
Likewise, it would be very unlikely for China to achieve victory if they had to occupy the United States.
Basically, in my opinion the invader would ultimately loose, which makes it improbable that invasion would be attempted. Thus, you are left with essentially what we've been doing since 1950 together... small proxy wars.
