The homeless problem largely started when asylums were closed en masse in the 80s. You could try and bring them back but I suspect it would end up being impossible to fund. Euthanasia is technically a potential solution in the more extreme cases but that's a non-starter in the realm of public opinion. Really it's just a symptom of larger societal problems and you likely won't be able to find a silver bullet solution without expanding the scope just beyond homeless drug addicts. If that's not possible then the best solution is to bus them to California and let someone else deal with it.

That just tends to increase crime and fuck the area up, over policing where they make being homeless a de facto crime tends to push the homeless out but usually into just other nearby cities. I lived in one city that had an interesting and effective system that while morally unethical worked: it was more or less illegal to sleep outside but the two homeless shelters charged roughly $20 a day so the homeless who weren't beggars, junkies, or criminals were forced to work. The thing is no one would hire a homeless person but they could work as a laborer and make $35 a day if the agreed to rather twisted terms of a local labor staffing firm that was mostly used by public offices in order to get basically free labor. 12 hour long shifts picking up trash for the government so you can have a spare 15 bucks will motivate you real quick to figure something out.

Well you can't just give them random drugs because then it will just be re-purposed and sold further making the issue worse (not to mention the astronomical short and long term medical costs). Those camps and the crimes exist no matter what system, even the one I mentioned that actually does exist and there's no getting around it short of actual death squads. I can't tell if you're trying to be edgy or just extremely naive.

This. Also I have no sympathy for homeless people. I've lived in Houston and Chicago and both of them are riddled with these scam artists. They aren't homeless they're just lazy. There was one guy standing on a corner begging for change at a light, people were bringing him drinks and food. He was there all evening and at the end of the night there was a pile of food where he was standing, he never touched any of it.

I watched an interview with a city employee in San Francisco. He talked about how out of control the problem has become due to the massive increase in the total number of homeless. He said it isn't just drugs and mental illness, that people are falling on hard times and that they are seeing more and more homeless families and families living in vehicles. He said the city greatly underestimates the total number of homeless and that the real number is many times greater than they acknowledge.

America is crumbling into a 3rd world nation and the rate of change is accelerating. I used to live in Venezuela. The gulf between the rich and poor in America is looking more and more like Latin America every day.

I was born and raised in Seattle. It fills me with an indescribable rage to see what the parasites have done to my home. Seattle was one of the most beautiful and charming blue collar cities in the world. Then the socialists got hold of it.
