Your intended major also factors into your acceptance at any school. If you're school is top 5 in a certain field you're going to struggle to get in if you want that major, but if you're going for something completely unrelated to what your school is known for you'll have an easier time getting in.

Case in point Sam Hyde went to Carnegie Mellon for like animation or some meme, but because it wasn't Computer Science like the school is known for it has a much higher acceptance rate.
