inb4 it's just a C-Class, it's nothing!! You have no idea what you're talking about then. We're currently in a very deep solar minimum, with a weakened magnetic field. A C-Class flare poses an actual risk while we are not in a solar maximum, where we would be able to shrug off X-class flares with ease.

A deadly burst could be a low class solar flare that hits us directly while in a solar minimum, especially next year after another year of weakened TSI and reduction in the magnetic field. They are very capable of detecting this because it takes 2-3 days to reach us, even flying at 1.5-2 million miles per hour.

What you’re talking is wrong though. The solar minimum is the amount of release; coronal mass ejections, filaments, coronial holes are all lower.
A separate issue is the poles and our geomagnetic shields losing strength.
So the type of flare (c-x class flares) as our shields are weakening won’t matter (either solar minimum or solar maximum). The issue is that this will, if it hits, cause damage to whatever is in its scope.
That being said we have more to worry about towards the rest of the years ahead as the shield is declining about 5-10% every decade.

Earth's magnetic field is not weakened. There are increased secondary high energy emissions detected at ground level during solar minimum due to increased cosmic rays into Earth's atmosphere because the heliosheath is weakened at this point.
