Would love to be nice, but reality is that multiculturalism is hell. We're fed up with it.

There is no such thing as multiculturalism you can't have more then 1 culture. If you do then one is dominant and the rest are like their own little societies inside a larger one. This is because culture includes so many things, a very important one is laws. How do you make a multicultural society if every culture has a different opinion about what should be legal? You can't have different sets of laws for different people, that would be chaos. Therefore it's the dominant cultures laws that are put in place and unfortunately the other cultures are oppressed. This is just a ticking time bomb. It's a recipe for disaster. Every culture wants to be the dominant culture, there is no stopping the struggle for influence and power. Therefore, 'multiculturalism' is just a lie we tell ourselves to make this struggle for a power seem like a good thing.

This is why immigration is not meant to be easy. We don't want massive floods of people coming in from different cultures. We want a trickling. That way the immigrants the come will want to be american and will assimilate into our culture, no problems. When you let too many in at once, they don't need to assimilate, they are surrounded by their own people, they've brought their culture with them. So they do not assimilate, but now they feel uncomfortable having to live in a country with a dominant culture that isn't their own. So we get tensions and problems.
Remember I am not talking about race, or religion, I am talking about culture, which is so much more complicated then that.
