Your idea of peasant life from movies is probably vastly different from what peasant life as in historical terms.
Real life "peasants" mostly did not live in any city for most of history. They lived what would today be considered largely secluded lives. By contrast, most of the other races historically did live much more collectivized lives. An African tribesman, for example, would have experienced far greater social cohesion with his people.

Fucking this. Without a huge bloated government to support, the tax burden of most medieval peoples was a fraction of what modern wagecucks pay. Most people today have to provide months worth of labour to pay their taxes. Medieval peasants could pay their annual taxes with only a few weeks worth.
