You'd be amazed how much info you pick up in class that you will find nowhere else, not on the internet, not anywhere. Go to your professor's office hours and ask questions, it's like a goldmine. Missing class is the absolute worst thing you can do, even though it's a hassle to attend (a lot of guys would skip the classes and just hand in the assignments, big mistake)

Furthermore you are part of a competitive environment surrounded by other smart people, it drives you way higher and faster than you'd go on your own.

Basically, you throw away a lot of your money and spend years of your life jumping through hoops to prove your IQ is at a certain level. Companies cannot make you take IQ tests, because it's racist. (See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griggs_v._Duke_Power_Co.) But they can make you jump through this arcane system for about four years, and that serves as a legal proxy for an IQ test. So an individual usually should go through this effort if they are smart enough, because it allows them to get more money over their lifetime. But the current university system is a drain on the collective, since there are MUCH more efficient methods of testing whether someone will be a good employee.

In the US you can get fucked by debt but in Canada the government will sometimes pay your loan off for you if you meet some standard.
