A glorious getaway from "real life" where you had freedom of anonymity everywhere and tons of information and media at your fingertips.

Limbo

Amazing.

My therapist beleives my unsatiable longing for old internet is the reason I'm balding.

I know that /sp/ was GOAT

It was full of le epic maymays

Attached: troll.png (214x235, 7K)

It was incredible. You could watch porn on youtube.

I had a twitter account back in 09, it was way more lax than it is now. There was no automatic censoring algorithms anywhere, or at least they were tuned down from what they are now. I can't even type a cuss word on youtube without my comment being ran through 20 different algorithms and then being put in the spam folder that the OP of the video will never check.

2012 was the last year for good internet and games

Feet porn is still on youtube. Those guys have it made, they can watch their fetish on youtube, NOT fair! JK DON'T WATCH PORN, and don't watch women and their super sexy feet.

ill google that one later theres just so many to keep up with

The internet lost the ability to process banter.

We've been fucked since

Remember when every Youtube comment was insanely retarded bullshit that had nothing to do with the video?

oldfag here, i still have a yahoo account from like 1998

as the world gets more horrible the old internet just reminds me of how great society used to be

Attached: yahoo.png (723x883, 75K)

the lulz were real.

Attached: 98465132.png (2400x2239, 129K)

There were still lots of 300 movie Spartan memes going on until a certain point, maybe 2010, but a few after that, as well. 300 was a huge phenomenon during the late 2000s.

I also miss the old google. Google is such a piece of shit now, censored, bought out by corporations. Can't find a torrent or anything illegal anymore, well at least not as easily. Censoring fucking faggots.

Funner

exciting, chaotic, ephemeral

Attached: 3333.jpg (224x225, 11K)

>bro you like memes too?
>yeah 9gag dude! XD

Newgrounds was the only good site.

less controlled, more free.

more genuine.

Yahooligans was the shit.

I miss playing pool on yahoo with people all around the world

>old internet was a getaway from real life
>real life is a getaway from nu internet

niggers didnt complain in literally every website about the littlest shit. asians didnt talk about their shitty rice in every comment section. indians werent around actin creepy and overly nice everywhere. it was fuckin glorious. despite a lot of people not being white in 2010 internet, they acted like it! they stayed on a websites topic and didnt defend niggers and muslims constantly. women were still annoying attention whores though. oh and lots and lots of forums for various topics. drake and josh? had its own forum. scrubs? had its own forum. jeepers creepers movie? had its own forum. assasins creed? had its own forum. want to discuss a specific show? find a forum

Isn't that funny. We were culturally able to freely sling around shit and joke with one another. I think society, generally speaking was much more open to stupid interaction

please do the needful

It was pretty gay. Still is though.

Yep, but then (((they))) realized that freedom of thought can lead to the )))WRONG THOUGHTS(((

basically this though
the internet used to be the wild west, but now it's just another corporate outlet like cable tv
rip internet

gay af

didnt people use to shitpost on stone tablets back then?

fuck man you're so right. nobody has time for subtlety or humor anymore. it's like the world is slowly turning grey.

Less niggers.

As a nerd, I loved the internet because it was our modern Library of Alexandria.
These days, you can't trust a goddamn thing that's written, even purported "fact". Art Bell had a more truthful website than CNN today.

*fewer niggers

Newgrounds crew
the lazer collection
sparta remixes
angry german kid
taking the hobbits to isengard/why is the rum gone
How not to play Hitman
FPSDoug
early GMod stuff
Machinimas
Rick Roll'd
and many many more..

Fuck, I want to go back...

Why so serious?

'10-'12 spee was incredible. one of the best boards on the site. rip lyl

How young are you that you dont know?

1999 I made money hand over fist by just blinking practically

So much fun.

Trolling and shitposting on mainstream sites was normal.

CP, torture, murder, suicide on Jow Forums was normal.

It used to be neat in some aspects. I obsessed over downloading cool music on soulseek for example. Really life changing. Boards were way better. By 2012 they were already shit and fucking Facebook had already taken over Der Ewige Normie. Just browsing, watching shit, shitposting and wanking were fairly good. Meeting bros downloading stuff has been awesome.
But today we have YouTube, a lot of books, easy porn and the chans are hotter than ever. So that's that

Oh, right that happened too
youtube.com/watch?v=ssgm5rUpgUs
youtube.com/watch?v=Ar4WzQ7KHak
youtube.com/watch?v=OUc7cUz8SAg

I worked at Dani’s hard drive it was best ever

Yep, any program I wanted I used to be able to find a crack for it, right there at the top. Not anymore. The cracks didn't just go away, faggot google is censoring their searches for anything that MIGHT cut into the profits of the faggot corporations that are always threatening them with lawsuits and defamatory hit-pieces in the media that they also own. These dinosaur media companies knew they could never compete with google they way it was meant to be, so they did everything in their power to make sure google, and any other site for that matter, cannot be free as to infringe on their artificial monopoly on information.

>Internet being more openly accessible to people outside of college campuses leads to its complete degradation.
>Facebook becoming more openly accessible to people outside of college campuses leads to its complete degradation.
>Jow Forums becoming more openly accessible to people outside of complete autists leads to it's inevitable degradation.

I'm sensing a trend.

If you were born after 94, your opinion means nothing in this thread. Or anywhere.

Around that time the mass of normies had just been pumped in but they didn't take over the internet until a few years later.

>We were culturally able to freely sling around shit and joke with one another

Except they werent jokes. They were death threats and threats of violence which were followed up in real life.

Nobody back then was ever okay with the amount of nastiness that was in the comments section of almost every site back then.

My Struggle by me

It had some fun games.

Attached: MadMaze.jpg (789x400, 56K)

actually cool
not the mainstream shitstorm it is now

Cat memes and stormfront were all that mattered until YouTube came along then it was cod nuke footage and Nazi zombie glitches

Attached: 123435675876.gif (300x225, 714K)

It was fun. Websites were less polished but had fun content. Forums were very topic specific but always had different sections. I spent so much time writing fan fiction for a dbz RPG that was so much fun. They would rate your writing, length of post, etc and your score would add to your power level. When you had certain Powerlevel you could trigger transformations and if you died you could travel to various parts of the underworld.

This was well before dbz finished airing in N/A so there was so much to imagine it seemed like.

You could easily run into cp if you weren't careful. Torrenting was big.

Now everything feels like a walled garden where social media dictates what you're exposed to. I know that's a common expression but it's so damn true. The internet used to be so much more free

94 was 24 years ago, you're saying that you need to be over the age of 24 to know what you're talking about? Stfu you insecure and retarded burger.

get the fuck off my internet unless you are gen x and you've used at least 2 different linux distributions

>t. someone not born before 1994

We need to be the snakes to ruin said gardens.

We weren't being pushed into one big collective like now. Everyone had their own little tribe they hung out with. I was best friends with people that I never expected to meet irl. People created stuff for fun. I would watch videos by people that had a full time job and made videos as a hobby and didn't expect to become rich off of it.

>1994
>not placing the cut off at 1984
Stfu you rotten toothed drooling child. The adults are having a conversation here.

It's true though. It was a getaway not in unhealthy escapism but being able to get out of your real life comfort zone and explore something different, with different people. Social media comes along and pretty much forces everyone to conform to their real life versions too, and keeps track of everything you ever say and do.

So now the Internet is the place where you watch what you say and in real life you just say whatever because you see no recording devices.

Yeah I miss forums, they all abandoned ship and went to Facebook/Twitter/etc.

>they acted like it! they stayed on a websites topic

Holy shit if there is something to note about this generation of newfags is there complete inability to understand a TOPIC on a forum or a thread. Jow Forums's catalog is proof of this, most people seem to have trouble figuring what the topic of the board is and how to stay on it. This applies in all areas of their fucking lives, normies can't stay on topic.

See this makes the biggest difference. When people were doing things for fun and not being total shills and trying to profit from shitposting instead of having an actual job. They make videos for attention now, not for fun.

I remember in school we read "The Scarlet Letter," to show us how cruel public shaming can be. It is sad that we that we still ended up this way.

people were more chill and real

Best time on the net was from '99 til 2010. Prove me wrong.

Pro-tip, you can't.

Attached: madness combat.jpg (720x480, 54K)

It was great it was mostly teens and very early 20 somethings fucking around so everything was retarded as all fuck. 0 effort was made to draw in normal functioning people, because no one wanted them around or gave a shit.
There was no attempt at being inclusive from anyone anywhere, either you accepted the madness before you or you fucked off.

Yep fucking faggot and their generals ruined everything

2007 was the true fall

We did it for the lulz.

That happened because anonymity brought out the absolute worst in people. Still does.

who /outlaw/ here

fuck the mods

Lmao no it didn’t, anons weren’t blowing up the twin towers or cutting clits off children, they just act like fuckwits doing stupid shit.

It’s not their fault it’s so easy to bait people into believing the fat nerds prank calling them really are going to carry out death threats.

I remember I had a myspace. It was full of all sorts of fucked up shit. Then one day I get a friend request from my dad and I deleted damn near my whole page before clicking accept. Along came facebook and I had fun for a couple months, until family friend requests started coming in. I knew the internet was fucked at that point.

We wouldn't need to be anonymous if we didn't have the constant threat of censorship hanging over our head about every little thing we say. Anonymity allows people to express their true thoughts, without some faggot going in and trying to ruin their life over some bullshit they don't agree with.

actually you hair follicles aren't getting enough blood.
You need to do scalp exercises
Hold your scalp with your fingers for resistance and move your scalp (crease your forehead) 10 times, do this every day when you get out of the shower.
you don't want a thin tight scalp on your skull, this can't support hair
it worked for me, stopped my hair line in its tracks and what I did save is now thicker and fuller and grows faster

IMDB and many other sites had comment sections where you could be anonymous.

A lot less pozzed

It means we've come full circle, and it's time to take everything learned in this chaotic mess and spread it through the real world. It is our destiny and purpose, and the reason the internet was created

Go forth, and live

The problem I mostly see is social media convinced people to start using their real names online, so people are afraid to speak their mind. I tell people I know irl that I use burner accounts on Twitter so I say what I think without fear and they always seem amazed like they never thought of that.

the biggest difference was that it was more about self expression than consumption

Remember, you're here forever.

Attached: 1433017849929.png (470x362, 179K)

2012? lmao. that’s like yesterday. it was mostly the same except everything utterly cancerous today was either just starting or still an idea. slightly less boomers and shit online. you gotta go back to dialup days where aol/irc were still in their primes to have experienced the true internet as it was meant to be

Prepare yourself for nostalgia: youtube.com/watch?v=kCpjgl2baLs

Sadly this, as someone who was there. Closest to that you have now is maybe tor or freenet.

Whole Lotta NEDM

Attached: NEDM1.jpg (600x520, 42K)

The biggest development for Jow Forums since 2012 isn't boards getting politicized or ideologies infecting everything, it was the fact that people are coming into board without going through /b/ first, as was the case with everyone from 2004-2012.

You have people jumping straight to Jow Forums now from Tumblr and DeviantArt and (insert site here).
Just take and for example, and to a lesser than extent . People flood these boards from the aforementioned sites without going through the proper channels. Thus, the chaos of /b/, which was for a long time the spawning ground and introduction to the core of Jow Forums, is lost on many. This changes the site in a very negative way and it's painfully obvious who is a nu-user.

Don't you mean Rickroll you idiot.

>the fact that people are coming into board without going through /b/ first
Fucking this. It's a much needed pleb filter.

Lmao, loser.
