We recognize you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA) including the EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and therefore access cannot be granted at this time. What the hell is going on? Do we live in a global communist dictatorship now?
I know how to use a VPN. The point is: Why should i have to use a vpn to read news from outside the EU? Why is freedom of information illegal now? is EU China now?
Jason Robinson
Yes, the EU is fucked Greecebro. Don't worry about it. It's going to collapse sooner or later anyways.
Adrian Price
The EU isn't blocking the site. The site is blocking you likely because they don't have the appropriate GDPR protections.
Lucas Perez
You do understand it's the EU that forces the GDPR though, don't you?
EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Eli Sanchez
They do not enforce the GDPR. They only prosecute people who do not comply with the GDPR. There is a very subtle difference.
Josiah Nelson
Yes, but the Herald Mail is a US company. If they want to do business in the EU without facing any lawsuits, they have to block traffic from the EU until they get this sorted. Plenty of sites ignore it or just slap an image like this without changing anything.
It truly is shocking that to do business somewhere you have to follow that places laws. Shocking, I tell you.
William Campbell
Oy! you got a loicence for that free speech?
Caleb Davis
incorrect The distinction really is very subtle
Dylan Ross
Absolutely nothing to do with anything. The Herald chooses to not partake in GDPR so it blocks people from the EU accessing its site. Your quarrel is with The Herald for choosing to not comply with EU law and do business in the EU, not with the EU.
This really isn't complicated.
Ian Martinez
There is no difference by definition. To enforce something is to prosecute those who do not comply with it, by definition.
Colton Myers
My quarrel is with the law itself that the EU put in the first place, that in turn, forces businesses outside the EU to ban people from accessing free information. It's a very convenient indirect ban on freedom of information. And it's one step behind the chinese.
Jose Allen
pretty vague definition famalama
Jacob Campbell
You do realise that GDPR prevents the misuse of your personal data, right? And that companies not complying either don't value your business or your right to decide how your personal data is used?
It's taking away from business and giving it to you. It's nothing like the Chinese, you absolute wally.
>forces businesses outside the EU to ban people from accessing free information. No, it forces businesses to comply with the law and give you control over, at least some, aspects of your personal data.
Blake Bennett
(((subtle)))
Ethan Hernandez
I wish the EU would just ban all Europeans from Jow Forums, too. At least it'd keep out the ones to dumb to use VPNs.
Kevin Cruz
Sure it does. It's all "for your protection" where have i heard that before? Oh i know, banning free speech labeled as "hate speech", is to protect the people from biggots and bullies. It's exactly like the chinese. What do you think they excuse their censorship as?
Section 5 of the Computer Information Network and Internet Security, Protection, and Management Regulations
The Ordinance regulation further led to the Security Management Procedures in Internet Accessing issued by the Ministry of Public Security in December 1997. The regulation defined "harmful information" and "harmful activities" regarding internet usage.[27] Section Five of the Computer Information Network and Internet Security, Protection, and Management Regulations approved by the State Council on 11 December 1997 stated the following:
No unit or individual may use the Internet to create, replicate, retrieve, or transmit the following kinds of information:
Inciting to resist or obstruct the implementation of the Constitution, legislation or administrative regulations; Inciting to overthrow the government or the socialist system; Inciting division of the country, harming national unification; Inciting hatred or discrimination among ethnic groups or harming the unity of ethnic groups; Fabricating or distorting the truth, spreading rumours, destroying the order of society; Promoting feudal superstitions, obscenity, pornography, gambling, violence, murder, terrorism or encouraging criminal activity; Publicly insulting or distorting the truth to slander other people; Defaming state organisations; Other activities against the Constitution, legislation and administrative regulations.[28]
