Muellers goal was to drop Trumps approval rating enough that after he prosecuted Manafort with 25 years they could impeach him. Unfortunately the economy did so well that Trump has around a 44% approval rating and about 92% with repubs. Not 20% think he should be impeached. On top of that the Republican judge called out Muellers bullshit and gave manafort a slap on the wrist so there is no major crime to justify impeachment in the first place. As a result Mueller has no choice but to cut and run and the dems are caught with their pants down. I would expect trumps approval to go up to 46-47 now which is appocolyptic for dems in 2020 who were running purely on trumps unpopularity.
To put things in perspective Trumps approval rating is up about 15 points from when he got elected.
