Welcome to /leftypol/ community thread. There is mountains of evidence of Russian interference in US elections. To be fair, foreign influence in elections is nothing new, but the scale and efficiency in 2016 was unprecedented.
Russia has many reasons for wanting to push Donald Trump
- Strengthens populist right-wing political power, which tends to be more aligned with Russian interests
- Sows chaos and discord in Western cultures, weakening them
- Pushing the US further from its allies in NATO and the EU, which directly benefits Russia
- Trump is undeniably more Russia-friendly than Hillary or other Democrats was, has repeatedly called for relaxation on economic sanctions that are crippling the Russian economy (reminder that Canadian economy is on track to overtake the Russian economy, if this hasn't already happened)
- Prove smug superiority over the West to domestic Russian supporters. "Look, we are able to manipulate the Americans. Put your faith in us"
- Many more such cases
