Also, with social networks, i feel like making new friends is harder and not easier. People want to hang out with those in their established group and not really branch out. I felt this hard when I first went to college a few years ago. Most people just hung out with their group they had in high school and it felt closed off from the start.

Now it's all backwards, the walk to your friend's home turned into liking someones status, and having friends turned into how many people "follow" you on instagram. These new ways of socializing release a significant amount of dopamine, hence why people do it, but it deprives you of the physical connections that humans need. You can't replace talking in person, and your brain observing your friend's body language, with today's social media, it makes everyone lonelier.

I had dozens and dozens of friends/acquaintances in college. I have virtually none now. Some instances were my fault, but most were not. And after realizing the problem, no matter how hard I tried, I just could not get any new or old friends to maintain meaningful communication. I'm honestly at a loss for words every single day.
