Why are boomers spending all their monies on travelling and useless shit while their kids are struggling with debts from college and beyond?
Being an Asian myself and having had financial support for my college education from my parents, I will never understand why fellow 'white' students in my college didn't get much financial supports from their parents when many of their parents earned way more than my parents.
(Many of students from my college seemed to have parents making 500-600k USD or above/year which was probably twice my parents' income or so. Yet, they didn't get as much financial support as I did.)
This should be required reading, in the core educational curriculum for all succeeding generations. We need to make sure the Boomers never happen again.

I think a big part of this is the fact that western boomers have a massive aversion to accepting their place as elderly people. They are trying to hide from this reality with material distractions and by forging lifestyles that are similar to those of young people.
I don’t know about other cultures, but in Britain, if you point out to somebody that is by and large a part of the ‘native’ British culture (can still be an ethnic minority), that is also middle aged, the fact that they are the age that they are, they are clearly offendes and upset by it.
Even if the point is made in a subtle and indirect way, boomers DO NOT like being reminded of how old they are. It’s a fact of life that they seem to try their very best to ignore.
As a 1991 millenial, I don’t personally see what the big problem is. Aging is a fact of life. Although, I would be dissapointed in myself if I did not feel as though I had achieved a certain level of success at certain age milestones.
However, when I reach middle and old age, I cannot see the reason to feel frustrated at such a fact, as it is completely unavoidable and one of the few things in life that are absolutely inevitable. For anybody, except the absolute least intelligent among us, this is something that is plain to see from a very young age, so it’s not as if you’re short of time to come to terms with it.
Boomers on the other hand, seem to act as though it has only just occured to them that yes, they are growing old and yes, they are well into their second act.

My parents are empty nesters and it honestly seems so boring. They are still paying for my brother's college (they paid for mine god bless them) but suddenly they find themselves with super busy kids that can't see them, pretty good energy and health for their age, and lots of money. What are early to mid-50 year old empty nesters to do? They talk about travelling maybe once or twice a year, but there is no way they can spend that much money on two trips that are only a couple of weeks long. They never offered any financial help, even though I'd turn it down if they did. But it would be nice. Countries and currencies come and go, so do governments and economic systems. Example: my grandmother got married in kingdom of SHS, had her first child in NDH, had her second in Italy, got properly settled in communist Jugoslavija, and spent most of her old age in Croatia as such - all without ever leaving her village.
Old countries have to think decades ahead, even more. What good is it if you kick out your child into poverty and then you both go to shit in say 50 or so years when a new dictator or something rises up?

It varies wildly depending on the school and where you live. Just tuition, no room and board for a state school in the state you're a resident of could be less than 9k a year. Meanwhile, living on campus at a private school could be well over 50k.

I'll do you one better. My asshole boomer parents were left a piece of property that my dying grandfather wished to remain in the family. They immediately wanted to sell it after he died. I told them they should honor his wishes. Since I talked them into following the dying wish of a WW2 generation man who paid for all of my moms college and never had much for himself, they said they would keep the property for now and then pass it to me. In order to generate money to keep the property we had it logged and the money put into an account to pay for taxes, upkeep, etc. Unfortunately, the account was under their name. They have since emptied that account for their traveling around, frivolous boomer shit. So now the account is empty and I'll have to figure out how to keep the property with no savings on it. Also, since family are buried on the property, if I were to sell it, I would have to pay to have them moved somewhere else. All because they are selfish, worst generation, pieces of shit.

You can do two years at a community college. Run you maybe $1.5K/year, without board. Then go to an in-state school. That'll run $7-9K/year on the low end, plus whatever they rape you for textbooks. Board will approximately double that. All said you can do college for about $40K. If you can work part-time during college (20 hours/week), at minimum wage you've just about covered your college costs.
None of that matters if you're going to school for Lesbian Dance Theory though. You're wasting your money.

It's gone up exponentially over the years. A state college I was accepted to back in 95 cost around 2300 a year tuition for an in state resident. That same school is now 11773 a year, which is about the same cost attending Seton Hall was back then. I believe Seton Hall is now around 38000 a year.

The state college I referred to did obtain university status in the late 90s and has expanded a lot since then. Probably the only reason for the price hike. As far as the curriculum is concerned, it may just be more of the same like you said.
