The problem is that all websites and platforms that don't comply with the EU's retarded standards would eventually be blocked to all Europeans - and some of the larger popular platforms that depend on world-wide audiences would be forced to comply as well, which would in turn effect users world wide.

The actual platforms in question can't and won't depend on everyone in Europe understanding what a VPN is or how to use one. Most of us who are in "the know" about these happenings are a bit more tech-savvy than the average person. VPN's exist, but it's a whole other challenge when literally everyone in Europe needs one.

IIRC some websites are able to detect if you're using a VPN. If that's true all one needs to do is detect and block the access to VPNs to their websites.
