For the past two decades the GOP has been gearing all of USA's most retardedly anti-democratic institutions to secure its continued rule/relevancy despite blatant unpopularity. The courts, the electoral college, the filibuster, the senate... all now exist to perpetuate the myth of "two parties" in an age when one party care only scrape together 35-40% support among the population.

This is the Republicans' effective medium-term strategy, and it's working.

As for the long-term... who knows.
My personal bet is them going full fascist at some point before 2040, as climate catastrophe worsens and economic contradictions heighten. The political climate of western countries and the USA in particular is just not ready for the inevitable flood of climate refugees, and the same proto-fascism we see in Trump will blossom into real genocidal mania.
