This first book I am reading now, and the second book was referenced in the first chapter of the first book I listed.

Tuberculosis, and many other diseases existed in teh Americas pre Columbus, and indeed, North America was allegedly a post Apocalypse compared to what it was like, population wise, before disease got out of hand. It is a really interesting read as I am in my late thirties and always thought no such diseases existed outside of populations that weren't at least pastoral (tuberculosis came from living with and raising beeves, I was told).

The vast majority of natives in all of the Americas were wiped out after the Spanish brought new diseases to the continent, a lot of them dying without ever meeting a European.
