There’s a lot of screeching -- mostly by shills and those who are Coulter fans (but I repeat myself) -- about what's been going on with immigration and the border. Here is a list of the four most important cluster of cases, with a description of why and links. Hopefully this is useful to understand why things are a fucking grind to get done and why things are fucked up. Trump is not a dictator and there are hard limits on his power, even aside from being actively stymied in the courts.
Short of shutting down the border entirely (which will not affect illegal crossings and the issue of instant-asylum created by the 9th circuit, regardless), at this point, Trump is EXTREMELY limited as to what he can do alone without Congressional support while the cases are on appeal. The CA district courts, and the 9th, have overstepped bounds constantly -- even when considering issues centering on internal immigration policies and powers designated from congress to the Executive, and those cases are going to continue to drag out until they hit SCOTUS.
>1) 9th Circuit - THURAISSIGIAM v. DHS etc. (2019)
Ruling: Asylum seekers -- even those who cross illegally -- who are rejected after an interview with immigration officials are entitled to challenge those actions in the U.S. court system before being removed.
Effect: Expedited removal is normally a screening process where those found to have non-credible claims are denied asylum and denied entry or sent home immediately. The THURAISSIGIAM ruling effectively short-circuits that process, making it so EVERYONE has the right to a full-blown trial and appeal to the process. This further congests the already overloaded courts.
Jurisdiction: 9th circuit only - CA & AZ (NOT Texas/5th circuit or NM/10th Circuit).
Note: A prior 3rd Circuit ruled that illegal entrants had no such right and may be removed. Highly likely this is heard by SCOTUS to resolve.

Ruling: Enjoined by TIGAR (and a 9th circuit appeal by DHS was subsequently stayed) preventing this rule from taking place. Additionally this PP would be impacted by the THURAISSIGIAM decision, requiring the government to hear removal order appeals.

Ruling: The Flores decision codified the treatment of minors in immigration detention and set forth a licensing authority for facilities which hold children long-term. Importantly, it created various obligations on the government but the most important is to RELEASE ALL MINORS WITHIN 20 DAYS who are *not* held in specially licensed facilities.
Effect: Illegal alien minors cannot be kept in custody — even when accompanied by their parents — longer than 20 days in nearly all detention centers under the Flores ruling. There are special detention centers ONLY for minors – and no adult are allowed to be detained concurrently in these facilities. This is where the “child separation policy”/“kids in cages” springs from, and why the children were NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED to be detained with their parents. Overall the Flores decision & Settlement incentivizes the release of entire illegal alien family units given the numerous complex obligations created by the Settlement Agreement to detain children AND the requirements for monitor reporting and monitoring minors released from detention to parents/relatives/caregivers. Subsequent cases (Lynch under Obama, Sessions under Trump) have all challenged and requested rules adjustments but mostly denied by the 9th Circuit.
