The grand jury brought 16 charges. The prosecutor after bowing to massive political pressure decided to drop all charges in exchange for 2 days of community service and forfeiture of $10,000 bond. Furthermore Smollett doubled down on the narrative that he was the victim of a hate crime. His lawyer acknowledged that he wasn’t attacked by white racists, but by the Nigerian brothers. The prosecution apparently bought that the check saying the money was for the brothers was really intended for physical training. So blatant money laundering works.
