Things will get a lot easier once you realise that every woman is different, the same way all men are different.
When I was growing up, I attended an all-girls catholic school and grew to fear talking to men. I think when you don't have a lot of experience, you start to make the opposite gender out to be mysterious and 'other' in your head when really they are the same as you or me.
If you want to meet people of the opposite gender in a low-pressure environment, I would suggest not using online dating/tinder/etc. Try joining a local community group or take up a hobby you really like. That's a good way to meet people where there aren't high expectations of being very good at talking to women/being experienced romantically.
Once you get good at seeing women in a less terrifying way, then you can take the next step and date a girl.

I think trying works only when you have something to offer the relationship like being a nice person or being cool and hard working. Maybe you weren't real with them? I can't really say anything with authority since OP's situation is identical to mine except I'm 19. There's a really pretty, smart, and locked on girl who sits across from me in class I'm going to talk to tomorrow. My plan is to walk up after class while she's grabbing her backpack and ask how her semester went. Hopefully I won't make her feel afraid. Even if she rejects me I'll be glad to have tried.

Not the OP but I have the same problem and actually want to figure out how to talk to women by trial and error. The problem is I don't have a way to approach women. I haven't had contact with any woman for years, there weren't any in my school, there aren't any in my uni, I don't have any friends that could introduce me to women, Tinder doesn't find me any matches. I'm literally stuck and can't advance despite the fact I want to.
