Germany's economy improved during this period literally through the use of deficit spending. Of course it's easy to create jobs when you're spending tons of money you don't have to build highways and military weaponry. They were also broke by the end of the war when they could recoup their finances by plundering other countries money. The country was in shambles for 40 years afterward.
