You realize there are millions of people getting TV via satellite? And they point their dishes towards the same satellite.
All you have to do is drive around, record the direction the satellite dishes are pointed, and do a little math. You'll find out all the lines converge to the same point about ~20,000 miles away above the equator. Because that is where the satellite actually is.
