Assuming the user gets in close and is skilled enough to get it in deep (takes way more strength and skill than people seem to realize) and it's got a nice sharp edge that cuts a wound channel as it's penetrating, then yes, that wound will probably be just as bad or worse than a single gunshot wound from a handgun.
