No, we basically work everyday of the year but a few legal holidays. You probably use most of your vacation days (which you get 10-14 of in a year, if you're lucky) for things you have to do during the weekdays on ocasssion that aren't covered by your sick days or doctors notes. You maybe get 10-12 sick days a year if you're an average worker and the doctors notes may be required to keep your job. I haven't had more than four days off in a row in 4 years.

I get to enjoy the Adriatic in the summer, ski in the winter, take a day off when I don't feel like going to work. No, i get federal holidays off, but my PTO accrues at a rate of 7 hours per pay. I'm so used to not being able to take time off that it works to my benefit because I can accumulate up to 6 weeks paid vacation.
