Why do people say that 20 year olds are 'kids'?
Why do people say that 20 year olds are 'kids'?
Because they're just now getting into the adult world and have a whole lot left to learn.
Because you are. I don't typically think of people as adults until they are 30 but anymore they're still struggling almost as much as we are if not more.
t. 22 year old
Old people like to assert dominance because they're insecure. Same reason they say they're right because they're older. They associate age with experience. They're old so they're better than a dumb kid like you.
It has to do with modern culture. The amount of people in that age bracket that haven't faced any real adversity alone and are incapable of looking after themselves is on a dramatic rise with helicopter parenting and an anti-competitive culture with things like safe spaces and participation awards.
"Tough times make strong men. Strong men make good times. Good times make weak men. Weak men make tough times."
I'm almost certainly paraphrasing there but we're between the 3rd and 4th sentences there currently. Just have to hope that things don't completely fall apart (say, another WW or democracies falling to Islam) before the cycle can restart.
You never start a sentence with 'because'you illiterate fuck
because most 20 year olds are inept socially retarded twats
Because a lot of them act the part nowadays, really. They're entitled, lazy, self-absorbed snobs who snuff opportunity because it doesn't meet their arbitrary specifications, who make excuses before taking responsibility and who expect all of life to be as palatable as candy and porn.
Simple as that.
I'm 21 and feel retarded and like a child
The tone would have read a bit differently if he removed the 'because.' My writing style is pretty formal, but sometimes style and tone are more important than adhering to every rule of proper English.
People are putting off life events due to the shitty economy and this is shifting maturity to later ages. Students spend all of their time studying and being in clubs/teams so they can get into college, then they live at home after they graduate and usually end up juggling 2-3 jobs. The ones that don't go to college end up in the same situation. If life and experiences mature people, then nobody has the time or money for life anymore. People are moving out later, having less sex, dating less, getting married later, and having kids later.
This is unneccesarily antagonistic. Maybe you should consider that Millenials and Zoomers didn't demand trophies, our snowflake parents did.
>our
lol, umadbro? Seems I struck a nerve.
What makes you think I'm not a millenial myself?
This is exactly the kind of shit I'm talking about though. You get offended and it's not your fault you got butthurt, it's my fault for posting. Fuck me.
How is me blaming helicopter parenting not putting any fault at the parents, anyway? Obviously they've got some blame to take but the kids who let themselves stay that way aren't innocent little angels either. And no, the world isn't a fair place nor is it a nice place. That's the way it is for everyone else too. Deal with it. You don't have a choice to not deal with it nor does anyone else so stop bitching.

Because your brain is still developing and you're fresh out of school. Unless you've had a rough time growing up, you're unlikely to have life experience at this point.
ready for the real world experience but only were told from books what to do.
Especially if you are still in college. You have lived most of your life in a world artificially divided into adults (who stand in front of the class and teach) and children (who sit at their desks and take notes)
It creates a mind-set and self-definition it can take you some time out in the real world to get over. (Proof: Has any person called you "Sir" or "Ma'am"? Didn't it freak you out?)
What about 30 year olds who still live with their parents and can't fend for themselves, are they kids too? Is a 40 year old a kid if he still lives with his 70 year old parents?
Likewise, was Mark Zuckenberg a kid when he founded Facebook in 2004? He was 20 years old at the time but he was already far more adult than everyone on Jow Forums, including those who post in the 30+ general.
Because society puts up a ton of barriers to growing up. Most people don't really start maturing significantly before they escape the education system.
Because you're still not at age to drink alcohol and (specifically the fresh out of school.
This is why you get an internship by at least your second part of 3rd year of uni.
Have sex.
Because they are immature and don’t know shit
low levels of economic opportunity leading to many 20 year olds becoming wholly dependent on their parents.
Stop coming to the 30+ threads.
People never stop being "kids", honestly. Most 40s years olds in the workplace will act almost the same as they did in middle school. People making those comments are mostly just being smartasses.
People consider a 20 year old a child because in today's western culture (I live in the US, so it's definitely true here, but I can't speak 100% for the rest of the western world) they're not given any responsibility.
Unlike the 1950's where a 20 year old could get a part time job which allowed them to:
>Afford tuition to a university
>Support a wife and three kids
>Buy a house of their own
These days, a part time job gets you:
>Dead unless you're sharing a house with 5 other 20 year olds.
You really need to get into your late 20s / 30s before you can even hope to afford anything like a home, and even that generally takes a working wife with 0 kids. Being an "adult" is generally a reflection on what you can provide, what type of life you can support, and what responsibilities you can shoulder. The simple truth is that given how badly boomers have fucked the economy, you can't hope to achieve any of the landmark aspects of an "adult" life until much later on.
Just remember:
Average family income:
1975: 50k/yr
2015: 60k/yr
Average house price:
1975: 60k
2015: ~800k
Average tuition costs per semester:
1975: $550
2015: $9200
I mean we basically are
You're frontal lobe isn't done growing until you're 25. But the real reason is so old people can sound condescending and tell breaching adults they havn't experienced shit.
