I said something similar to my dad recently. Said something along the lines of "without bringing up the holocaust, why were the national socialists bad?" And he said something like "well they were socialists!" To which I replied that doesnt matter, socialism is only "bad" because it has worse results than capitalism. Socialism and capitalism arent inherently good or bad, they are tools to raising the quality of life for the populace, and nobody ever criticizes the German government because its economy was falling apart or mass unemployment or because the average Hans hated Hitler, it always is muh hallofcaust.

The economy wasn't good under the Nazis. Sure, it was nice for most of the Nazi rule, but it was a system designed not to be self-sustaining but which needed expansion and conquest in order to stay afloat. Hitler bullied the large capitalists into focusing strictly on military advancements, which made Germany less able to do general economic production as well as it could have and it also made the German army too dependent on oil, which Germany had to either buy or conquer from other countries.
The welfare system, the Autobahn etc. were not Nazi inventions, but the legacy of the former SPD Weimar governments which the Nazis didn't fuck up, as they were not idiots.
But most importantly, the Nazi regime established an unmeritocratic partocratic system where people got or lost jobs according to their politics and ethnicity, not their knowledge and merit. Hitler had the luck that his generals were capable and that they had enough free initiative to act on the battlefield according to the situation on the ground. But he fucked that too in time when he gave military orders with no military reasoning behind them - like when he forbade Paulus to retreat the 6th Army from Stalingrad to evade the impending Soviet counterattack.
It was a corrupt and highly rotten regime based on utopian visions not worth pursuing due to their costs. It would have degenerated into some form of Franco's early days Spain or todays Russia over time and become a failed dictatorship.
