Perhaps people would need to work less hours, and have a greater quality of life, if you stopped taking a good 30% of their income through direct and indirect taxation, and inflating the cost of basic goods and services through regulation and excessive licensing? We need to legally invest literally all prescribing authority in doctors that require twelve years of schooling, and partner with the AMA to limit their numbers to the greatest extreme permissible by keeping out foreign practitioners and slashing admissions. Even the most remedial medical worker needs a four year degree to be licensed, and no health insurance plan can be permitted to offer anything but unlimited coverage for all possible scenarios with no reasonable cap on benefits. Also, local governments need to zone and restrict housing for the good of the community so all building has to be done with the approval of the bureaucratic city council, and new buildings need to be taxed the fuck out of.

And if rents become high and the cost of healthcare becomes high because of this, it's all capitalism's fault and just means we need more regulation and taxation.
