Could the freemium model work for restaurants?

everyone criticizes the freemium model for video games even though it proves to be extremely lucrative while still retaining a massive audience. Really lootboxes are an absolutely genius blend of socialism and capitalism, as everyone gets a baseline level of opportunity to progress that increases as the success of the system itself does, but those that have a lot of money can choose increase their opportunity to progress in exchange for benefiting the longevity of the system. So why couldn't we open up restaurants that do the same thing? Pure socialism doesn't work because everyone resents contributing to a system that benefits the whole without benefiting themselves for working harder, but I feel like people are a lot more okay with the idea when they understand that their contribution is ultimately only for an opportunity to progress with no guarantees either way. Do you think a restaurant could work if it had a rotating baseline meal that was free for every person 3 times a day, but people could pay to buy lootboxes for the chance to upgrade to higher quality meals

NO. FOOD. ANALOGIES

It would only work if the government subsidized those free meals because they would be overwhelmed by hordes of poor people taking them up on free food all day long. Providing a digital good like a video game with less features isn't the same as providing people with food, no matter how cheap it is.

You're retarded

This is the dumbest shit I've read on Jow Forums and I've been here since 2007.

I really hope you're high OP.

What do you think Olive Garden is? Unlimited bread and salad and soup. Free wine and like 25$ pasta.

i didn't read your wall of text, but that image is spoopy af

What are food stamps

Makes me think of UBI

Surely it would be a simple matter of anticipating the overhead cost and only providing as much food per customer as is ultimately covered by the contributions of others.

Look at how much is on a McDonald's dollar menu right now. Imagine the baseline level at a freemium restaurant was like a peanut butter sandwich. Sure, a black working mom could bring her screaming 5 children in 3 times a day to feed them. But if the first tier of lootbox was a dollar and she knew she had a 1/20 chance of getting a pizza rather than 5 sandwiches, don't you think she'd shell out a dollar per child? There's no way she'd actually get the pizza, the program practically pays for itself

After that cast Joe just looks more retarded than ever. His lack of knowledge is astounding. I didnt watch to that part but did he really not know what those masks were for?

>Free wine
?????

I know lots of restaurants offer free food already, but there's almost always a cover charge. Imagine a system instead where the baseline level is free for everyone and includes food and a drink (I'm talking like a sandwich/water max), then tiers that go up. A $1 tier would guarantee a food item off their dollar menu, but has the potential to be something up to the $25 or $50 menu. You could exchange it for anything from a lower tier, and at the same time could buy progressively higher $5, $10, etc. tiers that guarantee food of that quality that could be higher

There have been pay-what-you-want restaurants, they all fold up and close quickly. Restaurants have high overhead costs and are usually unprofitable for the first 5 years or so. Freemium would fail.

Disregard my previous post, you are dumb and have never lived around niggers

Nigger freemium doesn't suck because it doesn't make money, it does make money. But it also means a shitty game. Shitty games are my problem with freemium.

In case you're somehow serious, consider the difference between physical and digital goods for a moment.

if you support loot boxes you are cancer to video games
I think they should be banned and paid DLC too.
If you are about to use the "but the games would cost $90" then people already pay that and more, the choice is not to pay it and wait for the sales, you wont die not playing the latest installment of Battlefield of Duty: Modern Welfare.

Freemium works for two reasons: it’s very cheap to make, and it’s very cheap to distribute. Food is both difficult to make, and difficult to distribute.

Just to clarify, instead of having whales pay thousands, you would have to have them pay millions. That’s how massive the difference is.

in many countries the price of the food depends on where you take it. If you stand at the bar, the drinks are cheaper. if you sit at a table inside, a bit more. if you are sitting outside in the choice cafe seats, prices go up. works well.

you should loot your mom's box. film it for the kikes and post it on pornhub.

>only providing as much food per customer as is ultimately covered by the contributions of others
So like a paper cup with some tap water?

So how's this?
>Free tier: Shitty food
>$1 tier: Basic fast food, chance at higher tiers
>$5 tier: Good fast food, chance at higher tiers
>$10 tier: Burger joint food, chance at higher tiers
>$25 tier: steak restaurant
>$50 tier: good steak restaurant

Imagine if the actual design was multi-tiered as well. Like an outside section for the free soups/sandwiches, an indoor bar/grille for the mid-tiers, and private fancy dining for the highest tier patrons. There's no need to make the lowest tier the baseline for everything, you could basically just attach this model to any high end restaurant and only increase their business with it while churning out a little more overhead for those that take advantage of the free shitty meals

Food has high fixed costs digital has almost none. Nice thread retard.

anyone?

why the fuck would someone who is willing to spend money want to hang out with plebs?

you pay for a dining experience.

I don't know why you think this shit isn't how it is and has been but the markets that can support this do.

For example sports: You can watch it for free with a bunch of ads, you can pay to sit in the nosebleeds, you can pay to sit close up, and you can also pay for a skybox.

it's called BREAD you fucking idiot. most restraunts already do this. it's not a brand new amazing concept you just came up with. jesus Christ put down the bong

No. Software has a baseline cost of $0 per person. That means every person who uses the free product costs basically nothing for the company.

What WOULD work with the model is medicine. Everyone gets some baseline drugs, but you can buy a medbox for a chance to get some higher quality drugs.

We already do this. People in our country already get free food and if you want a steak dinner at a restaurant you can pay for that. Why burden business by making them run a lottery and busying their employees with making PB&J sandwiches all day?

One day I might be lucky enough to win the Viagra lottery.... A man can dream right...

Automate the assembly of pb and j

So, nothing? I make 80k a year and I promise I would still eat for free until you have to close down.

This. Dumb as fuck. Freemium works on games because they need fodder to feed to the people who pay. Rich people don’t like to be around the poor, especially when eating. OP is truly a fucking retard.
