What would you want to do if you could sue them? Your dog is dead and those shelters are always broke as fuck. Suing them for damages would simply cause them to close down in order to pay you, and you might not even get a penny anyways because the loan on their building, and any other liens that were applied to the business before your judgement, would have to be paid off first BEFORE you could be paid.

I believe they did the right thing, since shelters run on low budget, and they need to keep the animals that are more likely to get adopted. A pregnant dog is very unlikely to get adopted, and they will have to take care of her, and 4 to 12 more puppies. They probably put her in a garbage can, and conected a hose to the back of a car exhaust, since most shelters cannot even afford to get proper drugs to euthanize dogs.

They normally do that, using a diesel engine, reving high, since it will make the job quicker. The heat and the particles of a diesel exhaust contributes to a quicker death than just using plain CO2. Also, the noise of the engine also serves as a good way to muffle the sound of the dog's agony.
I have seen cases of dogs getting carbonized before even getting CO2 poisoning. You can tell the way of death, by looking at the scratches left inside the container.

Yeah, take this experience and learn how to be a good pet owner and take some personal responsibility. YOU were the one responsible for YOUR dog. It shouldn't be a fucking animal shelter's problem for your incompetence. YOU chose to not get your dog fixed, then YOU chose to give up the dog from the consequences of that decision. There is only a single entity responsible for everything. Who might it be?
