The purpose of life is to give life purpose.
This is something that we all have to figure out for ourselves and it's not something anybody can hold your hand and walk you through because it's different for all of us and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. So, what's YOUR purpose, OP?
Who cares. I was born because my degenerate parents couldn't just keep it in their pants. Now I must suffer with a bunch of other jizz spawn sex creature retards who make this planet a living hell
I don't think I have one because I don't understand the meaning of purpose. What's a purpose? A goal? Something that will satisfy me after I've done it?
This. It's why I hate people who say you should thank your parents or at least your mother for having you. Anyone can just go and have unprotected sex and have kids, it's not like it takes effort. Especially since abortion was probably taboo as fuck in the time and place where we were born.
Ooh yes and if you're lucky you die prematurely from eating too many chicken nuggies
heh, I do eat a lot of those on a weekly basis
Yeah but replace pain with pleasure or just chillin out.
Pretty much this OP. Just do what ever the fuck you wanna do
To make it easy: A purpose is what you were created for. A cheeseburger from fast food places is generally wrapped in paper, right? That paper has one purpose. One reason for existing. To hold that hamburger. It wasn't made to wipe your ass. It wasn't made to help you do our taxes. It's a burger wrapper. That is it's purpose.
So what is yours? What do you feel like you may have been created for?
Not everyone has a magical destiny. Some people are simply born to be NPCs and exist in the background. Is that what you want? (Probably not.) So what are you going to do about it? You have to create something more if that's what you want.
Help puppies. Invent a new flavor of jello. Anything. Your life is your own, but your purpose goes beyond just you. What you do during your time here will create ripple affects across society. You may not be able to see them, but they're there. Just as the guy who invented something as simple as a salt shaker, or something like velcro. His life was all for that one great thing that you also benefit from today.
So once again, OP, what is YOUR purpose?
>Is life just about hanging in there through the pain
Yes
>sweet release of death
Nope
The goal is to have those moments of joy in between the pain and to give joy to others. When your kid gives you a big hug and says "I love you" that makes up for a whole lot of the pain.
No life is about acquiring assets and having kids. Then passing on those assets to your kids
Youre parents thought a few minutes if pleasure is well worth a lifetime of suffering for someone else.
That's bullshit because not everyone wants kids or care about obtaining the most valuable stuff they can get before they die. That is A purpose for living, but it's not THE reason.
I'm sure you are misusing the word ''pain'', If life is immense suffering for you, then that's not life
Acquiring assets and having kids is the only way to live a meaningful life. It sets you goals and gives you responsibilities. Without them you'll likely end up depressed
The purpose of life is flourishing.
Employ your reason and you'll be fine
yes
You need to open up your mind and try to see life outside of your tunnel vision, friend. What you're puking up sounds like white-picket-fence american dream bullshit. Is that really as high as you can think of for yourself? Your ultimate goal is to squirt out a few kids and surround yourself with stuff? That's it??
I've known several individuals who go to their death beds surrounded by their children (That they secretly hate) and their fancy house and stuff in it that are still bitter and feel unfulfilled and salty. Kids + stuff is NOT the endgame for everyone. Maybe for basic normies like you, but it's not for everyone.
You know SEVERAL people that hate their own kids?! Either you're lying or you hang out with some real miserable people
My best friend's father who passed from cancer and my grandfather's best friend who apparently told him that he despised his family and wished he had ran away to live his dream in Italy.
Not that I have to explain myself to you, but hopefully you get my point. "Kids and stuff" is not the achievement sticker of life that everyone on this planet strives for.
1. Do as little harm as you can.
2. Within that boundary, do as much good as you can
3. Within those boundaries, have as much fun as you can
This is good. It's too bad more people haven't figured this out.
Wait, why should I do what I'm "supposed" to do? Why should I follow my purpose? You never said that my purpose will make me happy or give me any reward. If not then why should I do it? Whose rules am I following and why?
Maybe I'm a selfish bastard, but I'd switch 2 and 3. As long as I'm not actively making anyone's life worse, I do what I want first and foremost. And I do good stuff just because it makes me feel like a good person or because it makes people like me.
>sweet release of death by old age?
If by sweet release, you mean the spasms as your body expels everything it can from every hole you know of, and maybe a hole you forgot about, while you are awake and unable to speak because the cancer has finally come to collect.. then yeah. Some sweet release there. Death is almost never peaceful. If you haven't seen enough of it to know, join the army and/or work in a hospice for a few months.
I thought the brain tricked itself into pleasure when it realizes it's about to die.
Either way I still can't get myself to accept the fact that it's unfair that I was born (that I never chose to be born) and that I will have to face death. Normalfags seem to be okay with it.
>Wait, why should I do what I'm "supposed" to do? Why should I follow my purpose?
You have free will, son. You may be born for something but it's up to you to create more than that if you want it. Your purpose cannot be avoided, but you can willingly choose to create a life on top of it and that is your right to do so.
>You never said that my purpose will make me happy or give me any reward. If not then why should I do it? Whose rules am I following and why?
The short and sweet answer to this is that there IS NO GUARANTEE for happiness or "reward" at life. There's no guarantee of an afterlife either. (Do you remember anything before you were born? If not - why would you expect to see anything after you die?) and what's more, is that the cold indifferent universe doesn't OWE you jack shit. Not even an explanation. Life in itself, IS it's own reward.
(continued)
Your "role" is to give your life a reason for existing. Even if that just means being a junkie on the corner of the streets or some rando NPC in a coffee shop or even some CEO of a multibillion dollar industry. Your choices that you make in life will affect others no matter what. There are millions of us on this planet - each experiencing their own perspective, reality and figuring out their own purpose for being here. Maybe you'll inspire someone that will make a huge life-changing discovery because he saw you do something that gave him an idea. (How would you know?) Maybe you'll help someone that will go on to write a hugely popular harry-potter style book that will cause a domino effect for millions further down the time line? (Again - how would you know?) Maybe your life won't matter at all and you'll be a warning to others not to waste their life and time and money on drugs or gambling or some shit.
We're all the same. There are no rules that say you must do A, B and C. There are no rules saying you should be happy with your life or rewarded for putting up with the shit that you do. But you can rest assured that while your life is your own - you cannot escape the fact that we are all connected and that your actions will cause waves that will affect the others around you.
So in short, the purpose of your life is to give life purpose. Go create some waves!
>is that the cold indifferent universe doesn't OWE you jack shit
Yes it does because I didn't choose to be alive and now I'm stuck with this stupid life where bad things can randomly happen, and this stupid fear of death.
>Do you remember anything before you were born?
No but I read some stories about people who do. Not sure if I should trust them.
Ok well I guess that's good advice. Thanks
>I thought the brain tricked itself into pleasure when it realizes it's about to die.
I expect there are situations where this happens, but it is by no means a rule that it willi happen this way. Watching it happen is a lesson you won't soon forget.
I'm sorry, but in the real world we have to accept that you don't get answers because you feel entitled to them. You weren't asked for your permission to be born and yet here you stand. Without your permission - here you are reading this sentence. The universe doesn't give a flying fuck what you want. It doesn't care that you feel entitled to a reward or some sort of achievement sticker because you were created. You're here. Alive. Full stop.
It's all about creating. Find something you really want to create, do it. Then you'll be able to die in peace.
At least that's how I see it.
This is the only answer that makes sense to me, but I'm just 22 so idk.
For basic life forms that can not feel.
I live to feel good and become better than others. The reason we have children is so that they can be better. To be the best and feel good you must suffer which makes the time when you're not feel special.
I'm here on /adv to make jokes at stupid people, teach people, and to become better because being better makes me feel better.
No, it's about grabbing life by its throat and beating it into submission (metaphorically)
I don`t know, but I`m gonna sit and watch TV.
i guess yeah
I've just stopped caring. I used to but there's no point. Caring doesn't stop shit from happening. So fuck it. None of it matters anyway
