UPS/teamster contract - my local just retained medical insurance upon retirement, increased pension $12 per hour worked, top scale pay from $36 to $41 by end of contract ($1 per year). I dont really give a fuck what union tops are making. They're basically lawyers and are negotiating for me and my coworkers livelihoods.

The guy that owned it back in the day was just a great human being and left the company to the employees. That’s how it needs to be done. Not government coercion. Great men and women need to focus on building great companies and have the betterment of their community through great jobs be their lasting legacy. The guy was a devout Christian so I guess you could call him a Christian capitalist which would prolly be the best economic policy.

How was he not? He certainly was not a communist. He believed in making money. He Just believed that as a Christian he had a moral obligation to see to it that the men that worked for him had enough to provide a decent life for themselves and their families. I’m not talking about going back to Christian feudalism I’m talking about getting to a point where people are glorified for how they help their fellow man instead of how much wealth they amass for themselves. It will never work if it is forced by government though.

In my particular case, the union has a state-granted monopoly on its scope of work, so it's a captive market. But I agree, generally, any tradesman who works for the Man should formulate an exit strategy, whether he's unionized or not. Manual labor is not something one should be doing all their life.

My union dues are 2 percent of gross. With that I get protection, negotiation for contract, unbeatable healthcare, and pension. Pretty good deal.

My retarded roomate is a DSA shill, and he loooooooves unions. Never mind that he's never done a single day of real work in his life. He goes to his fucking office and reads a book for ~4 hours a day and does maybe 20 minutes of work a day. But no, I, the guy who works in a real factory that makes real things, I, am bamboozled.
