Having too high IQ alienates you from everyone around you. Having an IQ smarter than your teachers or bosses makes you a high conflict individual making it difficult to advance socially. Since all success has an incubation period that is heavily social, having a really high IQ, as opposed to above average, can be detrimental to success.
As with other phenotypical traits, it's better to be a standard deviation or two above the norm, not any higher.
