I'm a conservative in a liberal area. I have some liberal friends. There's one chick who disagrees with me on pretty much everything but we still meet up for drinks now and then. I actually think she likes talking to me because her liberal friends scare her to death with various doomsday predictions and conspiracy theories and leftist bullshit.

Like she was no joke worried about Trump colluding with Russia. What if he's an insider? What if he's selling us out? What's going to happen??

It's less of an argument between us and more me pointing things out and getting her to see that it's probably not as bad as anyone is trying to say and it's mostly just clickbait bullshit.

She's still liberal but I think she actually appreciates the other side of the story now and then.

That said, this is rare. There are a lot of fucking lunatics here I just do not talk to because they are crazy leftists.

Red and blue is relative. People choose their party because of what they fear the other one will do, yet party allegiance is not so straight forward even, to an extant, for real politicians.
There are many reasons and many arguments for every position.
To close off someone from discussion or friendship because they have opposing views or different education is to further endanger our societal well-being.
Demagogues in the past have taken power because of this kind of segregation. To grow in our understanding and to develop our education, perspective, groking, and general mathematical ability to weigh things, it is imperative that we do not leave out the people that would question us and who might not actually be very different from us in the first place.

I would argue its not entirely possible to move forward otherwise.

Most of my surroundings are either SJW's or radical anti-SJW's which are both equally cringy to me. I try to stray away from politics because people don't even understand their own opinions where I am from.

In fact, to me probably the only time you should ideally leave someone out (in a perfect world wore social and emotional type shit don't exist), is when they are a true, direct threat that must be resolved quickly in an emergency situation and there is no reasoning with them or no time to reason.

Yeah, unfortunately almost all of my friends are lefties. It's a little alienating--especially since the last two elections went hard blue--and I really need to make some rightwing friends so I'm not forced to choose between holding my tongue or dealing with hysterical screaming about their misinformed politics.

I don't believe I should be forced by the government with violence to redistribute my wealth to the poor, people who support taxes do.

I think I should have the right to defend my life with a weapon, people who think I shouldn't believe I should sit on my ass and die while waiting for the cops to come protect me.

I believe in freedom of speech/expression for me and any other person should be free to speak their mind and not be persecuted by the government, people who don't believe in it think I should be thrown in jail or shot for saying mean things.

In terms of taxes, I believe people should be treated equally regardless of whether taxes exist or not. I used to believe otherwise, however that causes problems.
Although I do believe in taxes, I wouldn't want the government to enforce them through violence and I would be willing to listen to a method of governance or an argument for anarchy that would allow for no or little policing.

I would need elaboration for this one, but although I probably disagree with you on a lot of things, I don't think our base morals are so different. I think there are many things that I would agree with you on. But this is not because one of us is morally decrepit.

My viewpoint is that most people in the world agree on most things most of the time. At the very least, most will agree that we need food and shelter and most people would agree that they are social and feel lonely if they are not with others.

I've had many Democrat friends, especially as a teenager. That said, I've grown apart from many of further-left ones since Trump's election.
