How did you guys choose your first job? I'm 19 and never had an official job. Is security guard a good choice?

>choose
You don't choose, you take what you get.

Yeah if you’re a poor nigger who can’t afford options.

Okay, goy.

No, I choose.

Security guard is perfect
You get more money if you do night's as well

You can at best choose the sector you will apply to. Good luck choosing your job.

Is a security guard a good first job?

No.

If its somehow literally all you can get then you’re shit out of luck. Take it.

Oy Vey

Thank you.
What would you suggest for a first job then? I was looking at the salary and requirements alone which seemed appealing to me.

Not everyone is a trust fund baby who can have daddy force companies to deal with your snot-nosed ass on a whim.

Like I said If it’s all you can get then go for it. But if you’ve never worked an official job in your life I’d suggest starting smaller. Working as a stocker in a grocery store is a good start.

Not saying a security guard is a bad job by any means I’m just not to sure it’s a good first job for a inexperienced 19 yr old.

An apprenticeship, but very unlikely to obtain.

Just try for anything that isn't retail, fast food, or a call center. Warehouses aren't bad unless they're Amazon/other large scale distribution center, and pay pretty decently. But if you have to (as in you have mandatory bills to pay), then you take what you can get and probably study something or work on something on the side that you can use to inflate your skills.

Bro my dad worked as a millwright and my mom is poor. My family is lower middle class at best.

If you’re a dirt poor fucking Nigerian who can’t afford to nitpick minimum wage jobs then yeah, take what you can get. But you shouldn’t settle with crap if you have the luxury of options.

Take charge of your life

Warehouses are also not a bad option. Although it’s a lot more demanding than retail. I’m retarded so when I started working the warehouse I had no clue wtf I was doing.

If you’re somebody who struggles with anxiety and focusing(I have bad adhd) then it might not be a good starting option.

I had a bunch of "make ends meet jobs" before I even got a real job...
I applied a ton and took what I could get, when worse came to worse, I had to take bottom of the barrel.

First Job @ 15: a local company needed a desk boi, I did that, but it was only for a summer.
Second Job @ 18: temp agency (don't do this)
Third Job @ 19: temp agency (made the same mistake twice) but at least this time, it was a college target temp agency and I got to be with people my age.
Fourth Job @ 20: an actual internship in my field
Fifth Job @ 21: another internship in my field
Sixth Job @ 23: a good ass job in my field

Depends on what you want but always remember: everyone starts somewhere. In terms of starter jobs, it's decent, but let's hope that you were trained because a guard carries a lot of responsibility.

What's wrong with call centers? Collections agent here

I got my first job when I was 18 last year. I was a cartboy at Lowe's for $10 an hour on a biweekly payday. It wasn't a bad job imo it was easy and I had free time to use my phone outside and the boss even gave me permission to listen to music with earbuds as long as I was outside. they never really expected me to do any other jobs since they prioritized these carts so much and wanted me outside collecting them till I had to leave but occasionally I had to work the registers if someone called out (which was constantly.)

The job wasn't bad but the environment was. the employees were so lazy aside from a few and the customer service was terrible. customers were always leaving angry or disappointed. I made a few friends with the customers and they and others sometimes said that I was the best thing to happen to the store.

I don't really know if this is true or not, that store was only my first and only job so far but try and get work someplace where the management isn't terrible and employees actually do their job.

tldr; work somewhere that everyone at least likes doing their job or you'll be the unhappiest of wage slaves

Security guard requires a training and two different cards, which cost hundreds. Seriously not worth it.
It's easier if you have a driving licence. I suggest that you start handing parking tickets.

They're definitely not good for a first job. We want the man to continue to work, not convince him to be a NEET forever.

Security is for the socially awkward. Unless you plan on staying with the company for 2-4 years, don’t expect a raise or promotion, and a lot of rude comments and dirty looks.

A better first job is to work at a hardware or a grocery store but steer clear of Walmart. Customer service experience opens so many more doors than security positions.

Some may say security is customer service but that’s horse shit. They serve the client, and the client usually only addresses your supervisors whom will relay to you. All security is is a crime deterrent, and most security companies offer little to no benefits which is why they have a constant revolving door.

Save yourself the extra work now, and find a better job.

Take what you can fucking get. Having over a year's dedicated service to a job, ANY JOB, and a good reference will put you in great standing for much better jobs that might even be complete unrelated.
