Yea there are, video games allows you to view, and to play with concepts that are extremely rare in real life, with proper video games they can be used for accelerated learning. PROPER, which means not for most popular titles, and neither for most "educational" titles.
But you know the gist what I am talking about, gmod and its constructions, minecraft and its weird engines and constructions as well. There are experimental games like trouble in terrorist town (a modern take to that would be Deceit on steam, for free I think) Some of these games can teach you very rare skills that are useful in real life, but they are like 2% of the whole library of games.

I do not believe that there is anything wrong with videogames necessarily. They can really help you flex your mental muscles, can engender healthy competitivness, and can be a useful outlet for stress and aggression.
The catch is, they're a time sink. While games do have some benefits, they do not provide tangible rewards in the same that having hobbies and doing work does. When playing games it is essential to balance your time because especially modern games try to occupy as much of your time as possible with busy work. Grinding, farming, etc. Spending hours, days, and weeks looking or saving for an item. Stuff like that. That time could be better spent, to say the least. I've wasted weeks of my life in various games and have very little to show for it, not even meaningful memories. That is the real danger.
As long as you don't let them consume you, however, they can be fun and harmless. Just be wary and be deliberate about the amount of time you spend on them.

heh, I got that feeling as well, I often just quit before when I was playing games when I found video games to be tedious in the way of grinding. I got a trainer and just gave myself godmode, or grindable gold to get past that so I could see the progression of the game. Often I learned of the game mechanic from another game and got bored halfway through. Eventually all the games were similar and nothing novel was to be found, good for us then that we found gamergate! Another real life mechanic to game and to exploit.
But growing up and understanding more of the world,I can see how games like eve online are so great for some people.
but what most games lack is accelerated learning. If a game mechanic is similar to a formula of some sort that you encounter in real life, and it puts the dopamine towards mastering it, then you will understand that formula in real life earlier. Easier. But you could also be put into more rare circumstances of all sort to get a bigger slice of life so to speak. That is the appeal of video games, you can be put into a diverse amount of worlds, in little time, for almost no cost.
If all of these games were managed well, and the world focused on business competition, nearly all govs would reign in all gaming companies to focus more on these games, and remove grind. Optimal learning, fast learning, broad range of experience. Those would be nice goals. And the kids would seek them out by their own and be addicted on their own. But its such a stupid theory, and so lose that there is zero guarantee that it would work.

I've recently replayed Knights of the old republic 2 and suddenly realized how much it has fucked me in the head back in the day (2005-6). Bao-Dur, an autistic engineer who literally talks less than droids, became my subconscious role model, and its "influence" system has taught me to jump around people and be extra nice to be on their good side.
