A better strategy is to strategically place fighting implements like clubs, rocks and shanks in locations along your typically daily routes of activity. Never know when you need to hit a Crazy Cree or Indian Possey member in the head with a brick.

In regards to knives and their use, consider the fact that there are only two things to aim for, timers or switches.

People can sometimes get bogged down in this, especially within some systems now which do a lot of targeting on static opponents. The thing that I find is it gets messy very fast and if you’re still in the mindset of trying to stab specifics then you are going to be slow.

You will revert to your primal self and stab whatever you can reach. The important thing to remember is effect. Because that will determine how fast the encounter ends.

Blood vessels and respiratory system are what we refer to as “timers” because they take a certain amount of time to start having an effect. Most people in a highly adrenalised state won’t even notice a stab to their chest cavity until they begin losing breath. This can take up to a minute depending on how many holes there are, the persons own physiology, etc. so even puncturing a lung means you are in the fight for up to a minute still.

Major blood vessels are also timers because it can take anywhere from 20 sec to a minute before the blood loss is significant enough to influence their ability to fight. Even a knick on a serious artery with high output can still take a long time - time which you still need to remember you are in a fight.

The other side of this is what we call switches. Damage which has a more immediate effect and will lead to shock a lot quicker. In terms of knife work your options here are very few. You can either try to influence the central nervous system or try to cause a massive drop in blood pressure.

A machete might get noticed while you pull it out and they could easily see it. It would require a lot of skill to use a machete on a nigger in a self-defense scenario and win. If somebody can see your blade or you pulling it out, they're gonna be able to react in time to prevent you from using it. They'll either use head movement or some kind of other block or dodge to get out of the way of the thing if they actually knew how to fight (which they typically do). This is why all the other anons are saying to use stilettos. But even if so, you would have to be swift with your machete, and you would have to slash a vital area like the throat immediately after you pull it out. So, quickness is key especially if you're gonna use something as big as that. You're gonna have to faster than the nigger trying to rob you.

To do so with a typical edc knife limits your options. The area at the back of the neck just below where the skull joins the spine is a large cluster of nerves that can severely impact on a person. This is why we use the neck and throat area a lot. The side of the neck houses two major blood vessels. A lot of nerve clusters, an airway in the front of the neck, and direct access to the CNS at the back of the neck. People also rarely protect their necks, even in cold weather it’s relatively uncovered and unprotected compared to other vitals.

The secondary consideration when it comes to damage in blade on blade encounters is biomechanical damage and psychogenic effects. The effect of peeling a persons bicep off their arm is going to have both a psychogenic shock value as well as biomechanical effect that their arm no longer functions.

Be used in close quarters grappling.

A machete is better on the attack when you have had time to ready it. (Real fights happen in 10ths of a second, not that movie shit where everybody takes a turn fighting and posturing to make things exciting for the audience.) A small .38 special revolver is the far superior choice in the modern age for unarmed, one on one combat (which is most of the combat you will get into off the battlefield.) Fast to ready it. Machete is OK for self defense but only if you have it slung on your waist or (faggot style) chest for quick access. Knife is better close up. Gun is more powerful but loud.

Here everyone at least has a machete on them for the bush. Knife is looked at as a bit odd and gun is noticed so so depending on area. Overall knife is probably the most off putting / you stand out the most. Protip: if you shoot a native you better be ready to GET OUT asap or have enough bullets to take the entire settlement. I've seen expandable batons fail to stop people on a few occasions. A weapon with a degree of reach can be effective if you have the time and space to deploy it, but most fights are going to get to 'bad breath' range well before most people know they're engaged in violent conflict.

You should check out Don Pentecost's book on knife fighting. If you've got good range control from MMA training, disarming a knife when held in the off-hand would be very difficult in the way that he used to train. Excuse the shit crop, but this should give you an idea of what I'n talking about.
