I will investigate this but based on my impression from speaking to a friend it is the real deal. There were originally four people captured and they let the other couple go before keeping her and the driver then they called the family in CA using her cell phone. I've considered the possibility that the driver who got captured could have been in on it. My impression is that everyone for the family has basically accepted that she is gone for good.
