Why is it that people who have seemingly no sense of humour, the types who take things seriously and not recognise a joke when it presents itself, aren't usually bright in the head either?
I seriously can't be the only one whose noticed this.

The understanding/appreciation of creativity and emotions definitely bear some relation to intelligence.
Sense of humor and intelligence are routinely linked to each other.

comedians are generally incredibly smart and quick thinking because they need to improv pretty quick
Perhaps a lack of imagination and lateral thinking. It's when surprising ideas and unexpected outcomes arise that delight us do we find humour in a situation. These things require a certain thinking process that some people might not be as predisposed towards as others.
That being said, just because someone isn't prone to fits of laughter or witty conversation doesn't make them an idiot. They could be highly intelligent and informed in other respects. A lot of it comes down to personality as well. Napoleon wasn't the most suave conversationalist but he had a sharp intellect for practical matters but also knew how to improvise and innovate.
Is there an evolutionary reason behind this?
Is this why sense of humor plays an important part in choosing a mate?
I've once heard sense of humour shows with and intelligence. It's attractive. Smarter babies.
Wit. Damn autocorrect.
I believe you but some links would be nice too.
As a liberal I find this offensive
I didn't really know walking into this hence "I've heard" but why not I'll find some stuff

This one is interesting because it touches on people who don't get jokes at a primal level as you mentioned so that's fun...

Neither say what I said out right but youll notice humour is being called a "complex cognitive function" in humans so I feel we can infer humour means smarter and it would be attractive.
Its all interlinked together.
Christopher hitchens wrote an interesting article on a possible evolutionary explanation for the development of humour, particularly in men.
Thanks a bunch I'll read it when I get home.
I reject your premise.
I travel in academic circles. I know oplenty of very smart people with no sense of humor and very dumb people who are funny and get a joke.
You are drawing conclusions from a limited and skewed sample
>tries to sound extremely smart
>ignores all the links
Was getting blown the fuck out part of your plan?
Maybe you think those smart people don't have a sense of humor because they don't laugh at your 70 IQ garbage tier unfunny Jow Forums drivel.
I'm a pretty smart person but my parents hated jokes and I wasn't raised around people who really got into them.
I'd hear one but I wouldn't laugh. I'd go "That's weird."
>my parents hated jokes
Sounds like a fun childhood.
It was. Also, don't worry. I learned humor later on. I was given a medical book by a bookstore that was going out of business and stuff like this makes me laugh so hard. Imagine that happening to you. Haha, wouldn't want that to be me haha.
Oh wow, horrible disfigurements lmao
