Pretty sure it is quite a bit more expensive than Vegas. I looked into the town a while ago and I think they have a limit on the number of houses that can even be built in a year and it was really low.
Nice bike path around Hoover Dam in that area, the train museum is somewhat neat, ziplines and mountain biking on Bootleg Canyon but coming from inexperienced the paths are brutal as hell compared to woods mountain biking.

Been quite a few times to Vegas. Get a strip hotel but spend most of my time away. Tons of nice hiking areas within 4-6 hours (Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Meteor Impact Site, Red Rock, Zion, Valley of Fire)
Other cool places are Hoover Dam (extended tour), Bootleg Canyon, Pinball museum, Nuclear Testing Museum (also check the DoE for tours to the Areas (test sites) from there, they fill up for the year super early though). Neon graveyard too

Fairly nice place but I can't find any good paying IT jobs.

Valley of fire is hot and boring.
Red rock on the west side has a spring and trees- horse rental also.
Mt. Charleston is a lot cooler and only a 45 minute drive to the top. (Pretty sure the ski resort just closed for the season though).

Don't walk the portion between the stratosphere and downtown (where the large casinos stop).
And if you go to Fremont street downtown, don't leave it. The surrounding neighborhood has police cameras on lightpoles for a reason.
Take the bus or taxis back to the strip.
